Dr. Joseph Ricotta leader in vascular and endovascular surgery Dr. Joseph Ricotta of Northside Vascular Surgery brings years of valuable experience at the nation’s leading institutes to his role as the Chair of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy and a Director of Northside’s Heart and Vascular Institute.

Prior to joining Northside, Dr. Ricotta served as an Assistant Professor of Surgery and Director of Clinical Research at Emory University and Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He also established the first fenestrated aortic endograft program for the treatment of complex aortic aneurysms at Emory University. He gained vast knowledge in the field of vascular and endovascular surgery through studying, interning and completing residency and fellowships at Yale University, Jefferson Medical College, Johns Hopkins Hospital, Oxford University in England, the Mayo Clinic and the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Ricotta has been elected as an Atlanta Magazine “Top Doctor”, been repeatedly chosen as a top surgeon in the United States, and was selected by U.S. News and World Report as one of the Nation’s Top Doctors. He was recently honored as a Distinguished Fellow of the Society for Vascular Surgery.

In addition to providing the full spectrum of vascular and endovascular clinical services, Dr. Ricotta brings years of experience in clinical research trials as a national and international participant. He is the first surgeon in the United States with FDA IDE approval to create and implant custom modified endografts in high risks patients with thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms, has authored over 150 publications, been an investigator in over 50 clinical research trials, and serves as an Editor or on the Editorial Board of several professional medical publications. Dr. Ricotta has delivered over 200 lectures nationally and internationally, is the Founder and Meeting Chair of the International Aortic Summit, Chair of the Incoming Fellows Program of the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, and a member of multiple committees in the Peripheral Vascular Surgery Society and Society for Vascular Surgery. He is also a thought leader and consultant for many industrial companies.
