Dr. Joseph Ricotta leader in vascular and endovascular surgery Dr. Joseph Ricotta is a nationally and internationally recognized expert in the field of vascular and endovascular surgery. He brings years of valuable experience at the nation’s leading institutes (Yale, Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins Hospital) to his role as the Chair of the Department of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy and Medical Director of the Heart and Vascular Institute at Northside Hospital as well as Associate Professor of Surgery at the Georgia Regents University/University of Georgia School of Medicine.

Prior to joining Northside, Dr. Ricotta served as an Assistant Professor of Surgery and Director of Clinical Research at Emory University and Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He also established the first fenestrated aortic endograft program for the treatment of complex aortic aneurysms at Emory University. He gained vast knowledge in the field of vascular and endovascular surgery through studying, interning and completing residency and fellowships at Yale University, Jefferson Medical College, Johns Hopkins Hospital, Oxford University in England, the Mayo Clinic and the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Ricotta has received numerous awards and has been repeatedly elected as an Atlanta Magazine “Top Doctor” as well as one of the Nation’s Top Doctors by U.S. News and World Report, and been repeatedly chosen as a Top Surgeon in the United States. He was recently honored as a Distinguished Fellow of the Society for Vascular Surgery.

In addition to providing the full spectrum of state of the art vascular and endovascular clinical services, Dr. Ricotta brings years of experience in clinical research trials as a national and international principal investigator. He is the first surgeon in the United States with FDA IDE approval to create and implant custom modified endografts in high risks patients with thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms, and is one of the first surgeons in the world and first in the Southeast United States to perform endovascular robotic surgery. Dr. Ricotta has authored over 175 publications, been an investigator in over 50 clinical research trials, serves as an Editor or on the Editorial Board of several professional medical publications, and has delivered over 200 lectures nationally and internationally. He is the Founder and Meeting Chair of the International Aortic Summit and the annual Northside CardioVascular Symposium, Chair of the Incoming Fellows Program of the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, Chair of the Membership Committee in the Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Society and served on multiple committees of the Society for Vascular Surgery. He also serves on several Advisory Boards and is a thought leader and consultant for many industrial companies.

Dr. Ricotta is also dedicated to training and teaching future physicians and vascular surgeons and is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the GRU/UGA School of Medicine. He is very active in the training of medical students, physician assistant students, surgical residents and fellows, and runs training workshops for physicians and vascular surgeons from all over the world on new, innovative endovascular techniques.
